Club News

Garden Tour:  We all know the 2009 Garden Tour was successful. What you might not have heard is that we raised more money than we expected. This bodes well for our many community projects.

Community Service:  Carried out by Pat Reinhardt and her committee,  the Arbor Day Celebration occurred  April 24, 10:30 am at the Hallowed Ground on Forrester Ave.  A shadbush serviceberry tree was planted, and Mary Pohlman provided music. The event was well attended by the community.

Another event planned by Pat was a Trip to Newark, NJ to maintain the garden surrounding the Frederick Franck sculpture on June 8.  This was done in conjunction with The NEW Community Corporation in Newark. Students (HS girls) from St. Vincent Academy worked with us to help clean up the area.

Lastly, Pat also spearheaded a group of Gardeners to help clean up Pacem in Terrace, the home and sanctuary of Mrs. Frederick Franck.

Garden Therapy:  It's so rewarding it is to be part of Garden Therapy.  The residents of Mount Alverno are always so thankful for the opportunity to work and sing with the Gardeners.  Last year, Garden Therapy sponsored 3 flower arranging sessions and 2 planting sessions in the outside planter boxes.  Mary said the events have been enhanced with "music therapy."

Library Book Donations:  Eileen Marcos announced that Gardening-themed library books were donated to the Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake libraries.  She commented on how beautiful the donated books were and that the libraries were very appreciative.  Cathy Garofalo asked about our WVG tile for the Warwick Library.  There was a brief discussion, and it was determined that we had not decided on a picture for the tile, since the library does not want logos to be used.  We will discuss this at a later meeting.

Village Hall GardenThe Village Hall is going to be renovated. This required Marcela Gross's committee to remove the garden before the work started.  She left the bulbs in the ground, along with the rose bush.  A new plan for the garden has been created, and Mayor Newhard suggested that Marcella present the new plan and costs to the Village Board..  A professional landscaper has offered to install the garden.  The Village has agreed to provide soil and compost for the garden.

New! We are joining the Warwick Chamber of Commerce as a club.
